Pharmacist Usage of Smartphones & Tablets Continues to Rise
For the first time, more than half of pharmacists report using their smartphones for professional purposes, according to Kantar Media’s Sources & Interactions 2014 Study – Pharmacy Edition. Usage has increased by 4 percentage points year-over-year. While there is still a large gap between pharmacists’ usage compared to physicians, both groups have shown steady growth since 2011.
The percent of pharmacists using tablet devices for work reasons jumped 3% since 2013, demonstrating that tablets haven’t become a key part of a pharmacist’s work-life. They still trail physician usage for both smartphones and tablets.
Similar to last year’s data, the majority of pharmacists still do not use mobile apps on either their smartphones or tablets for work reasons. However, the most popular smartphone app type for pharmacists is for Diagnostic Tools/Clinical Reference.
Kantar Media’s Sources & Interactions™ Studies offer a detailed examination of healthcare professionals’ online and mobile activities, e-detailing experience, and exposure to (and evaluation of) information sources including traditional and emerging media, pharma reps, CME, conventions and more. The Pharmacy Edition, conducted every year, is designed to profile pharmacists’ media use in these areas of interest to healthcare marketers and media professionals.
