Ophthalmologists Are More Likely to Use Tablets for Professional Purposes Than Opticians or Optometrists

by Jaime Brewster

Tablet usage continues to increase among U.S. physicians and the trend is reflected with the eyecare health field as well. All three groups of eyecare professionals in the Sources & Interactions 2014 Study – Eyecare Edition showed increases year-over-year in terms of using these devices for work reasons. It’s important to note though that the majority of all eyecare professionals still do not use tablets for work.

Ophthalmologists show the greatest usage of tablets for work reasons among the three groups with almost half admitting to using these devices. But among opticians and optometrists the percentages are closer to one-third.  Further, the majority of ophthalmologists do not use apps on tablets for work reasons.

Kantar Media’s Sources & Interactions™ Studies offer a detailed examination of healthcare professionals’ online and mobile activities, e-detailing experience, and exposure to (and evaluation of) information sources including traditional and emerging media, pharma reps, CME, conventions and more. The Eyecare Edition, conducted every year, is designed to profile physician assistants' and nurse practitioners’ media use in these areas of interest to healthcare marketers and media professionals.
