Healthcare Advertisements & Their Impact on Consumers
167 million adults have seen or heard healthcare advertising in the last 12 months, according to the 2015 MARS Consumer Health Study. The chart above shows where these adults have seen or heard healthcare advertising. 3 out of 4 have seen or heard healthcare advertising on television and more than half have seen or heard healthcare ads in a doctor’s office.
Among adults that have seen or heard healthcare advertising, 1 out of 3 took some action as a result. Adults who saw or heard healthcare advertising in a doctor’s office were 52% more likely to have asked their doctor to prescribe a specific drug, while adults that saw/heard healthcare ads in a pharmacy were only 45% more likely to have asked their doctor to prescribe a specific drug.
55% of adults that have seen/heard healthcare advertising in a doctor’s office say they feel that pharmaceutical healthcare information at their doctor’s office is credible and useful. A third of these adults say that pharmaceutical advertisements make them more knowledgeable about medicines.
